Behavior Therapist
Tim Hanauer started working with Actualize Behavior Alternatives in 2025 out of the desire to make a meaningful, day-to-day difference in the lives of people navigating complex behavioral and emotional challenges. With a background in language arts, music, and construction education, program development, and youth advocacy, Tim brings a compassionate,
strengths-based approach to his work—one rooted in empathy, consistency, and connection.
Before joining ABA, Tim spent over a decade designing and leading innovative programs that empowered students through creative expression, social-emotional learning, and real-world problem solving. Throughout his career, Tim has worked closely with diverse learners and families, always striving to create safe environments where students feel seen, supported, and capable of growth.
In every session, Tim brings calm presence, clear boundaries, and a sincere commitment to meeting each client where they are. His work with Actualize is an extension of his lifelong dedication to helping people thrive—not just academically, but as whole humans.
Outside of his work with ABA, Tim is a father, songwriter, gardener, and outdoor enthusiast who finds joy in creativity, connection, and making a positive impact wherever he can.
He received his bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, and Post-Baccalaureate Education
Certification from Colorado State University. He holds a Professional Teaching License and CTE Secondary & Post-Secondary Credentials from the Colorado Department of Education and is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy.
One of the most valuable lessons Tim has learned from the school of hard knocks is that no one is coming to build the life you want for you. It s on us to show up, take risks, and create with intention— because this is it. This is our chance.
If Tim could choose any superpower, it would be to fly.
In his personal time, you can most often find him writing songs by the wood stove, fly fishing, or working in his garden.
